Moleben for the sick, Las Vegas epistle & more

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ,
May the Lord bless you!
Join us tonight (Wednesday) at 6:30 p.m. for a moleben to the Mother of God, the Queen of All, for the sick. O Most Holy Theotokos, save us!
Archbishop Peter wrote an epistle to all of us in response to the shooting in Las Vegas. We should all read it and take action based on it:
Services this weekend are as usual: Confession on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., followed by Vigil at 6:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy on Sunday at 10 a.m. with Church School after lunch.

Exaltation of the Cross & Pictorial Directory

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
May the Lord bless you!
Tonight at 6:30 p.m. we celebration the Great Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. This is a moving, spiritual rich service, well worth your effort to attend. The peak occurs near the end when the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord is brought out of the altar to the center of the Church, reminding us of its Exaltation by Patriarch Macarius in the year 326.
Follow this link for a detailed explanation of this blessed event: http://orthochristian.com/64410.html
Confession begins tonight at 5:30 p.m.
Divine Liturgy is tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Also, thanks to the wonderful labors of our parishioner Katie Schneider, we now have a beautiful pictorial directory of many of our parishioners.
May this help all of us pray for each other and learn to call each other by our names!
We are very grateful to Katie and encourage everyone to support her business: http://www.katieschneiderphotography.com/
The directory can be downloaded for free here: https://stgeorgeroc.org/photodirectory/
To respect the privacy of our parishioners, please do not share this link outside of our parish.

Pilgrimage to Hermitage of the Holy Cross & other opportunities

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
May the Lord bless you!
As always our beloved monastery, the Hermitage of the Holy Cross, will hold it’s annual pilgrimage on the weekend after the Exaltation of the Cross — Sept. 30-Oct. 1 this year.
We will only have a reader’s service next Sunday, Oct. 1 at St. George, since many of our parishioners join in this pilgrimage. Look here for more information about the pilgrimage: https://www.holycross-hermitage.com/blogs/news/pilgrimage-weekend-2017
One of our parishioners has rented a cabin at the State Park nearby and is looking for others with whom to share it. Please contact Stephen & Helen Eble at (513) 417-9264 if you are interested.
Another parishioner is looking to share a ride, please let me know if you can help out with transportation.
To help support the monastery, we will be making a special collection tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 24. Please be generous in your support of these monastics who pray for us regularly and offer the whole world a place of spiritual refuge!
If you do not join the pilgrimage, you may be interested in a talk being given at Christ the Savior parish next Saturday night when we will not have services: https://www.christthesavioroca.org/news_170915_1.html
Dr. Kizenko was one of my professors in seminary! Please greet her warmly.

Finally, as a reminder for parishioners who are not members of Facebook, note that our parish Facebook page is public. That is, you can see it even if you are not a member of Facebook. Look here for a recent video from our Russian Festival: https://www.facebook.com/pg/StGeorgeCincinnati/videos/
Enjoy!

Sincerely in Christ,
priest Daniel

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

What a wonderful blessing our Festival was this past Saturday! May God richly bless all of you who labored for the success of the event — and it was successful! We’ll have detailed figures available soon.
Tonight and tomorrow we celebrate the birth of the Virgin Mary — the nativity of the Most Pure One! Join us tonight for vigil at 6:30 p.m.(confession at 6 p.m.) and tomorrow for liturgy at 9 a.m.
O Most Holy Theotokos, save us!

Russian Festival! & more…

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our festival is tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.!
Please join us and bring your friends along for a great day.
May God bless all of you who have labored and will labor for this important fundraiser!
If you are able to help, but have not yet signed up to volunteer, please do so here:
We still have a number of positions unfilled and need your assistance so that everything goes smoothly.
During the festival, remember that each one of you will become the example of the ONLY ORTHODOX CHRISTIAN many of our guests have ever met! If you are kind and attentive, then they will associate that with Orthodoxy. Let us strive to love our neighbors and see the image of Christ in each one of them.
As in previous years, our neighbors at the Loveland Heights Church of Christ (1566 W Loveland Ave, Loveland, OH 45140) have graciously offered to allow us to park in their lot on Saturday. There will only be handicapped parking at our Church since the tent covers much of our lot. Of course, there is also street parking and many spots at the parks near us.
As we did last year, we will serve Vespers during the festival at 4 p.m. on Saturday. Confession will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, though I may be able to hear a few confessions immediately after Vespers. We will serve Matins on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. and then go straight into Liturgy after that.
Sincerely in Christ,
priest Daniel

Festival Preparation, Church School Registration & Prayers

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

May the Lord bless you!

Festival Preparation
Join us tomorrow morning starting at 9 a.m. to clean up our grounds in advance of our parish festival (Saturday, Sept. 16 will be here before you know it!). Starting at 10 a.m. tomorrow, another group will be making pirozhki for the festival in the parish kitchen. Please also remember to sign up to volunteer for our festival here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0f4aa9ad29a57-russian1

There are lots of opportunities for good works!

Church School Meeting & Registration
We will hold an organizational meeting on Sunday after Church for our parish Church School. Parents, please be sure to attend and register your children. Spiritual Education is one of the most important activities of a parish and sharing the wisdom of the Church with our youth is extremely important. We have classes for children from Pre-K through middle school.

Let us pray to the Lord! Lord, Have Mercy!
We have already seen the massive destruction of hurricane Harvey and now hurricane Irma is wreaking havoc in the Caribbean and headed straight for Florida. We will make another special collection in support of IOCC’s relief efforts this weekend. His Eminence, Archbishop Peter, wrote a letter about our parishes in Texas: https://www.chicagodiocese.org/news_170905_1.html

Also, please pray for the newly-departed priest Mark Gilstrap. Fr. Mark was a founding member of our parish and ordained a deacon while living here. He subsequently moved to Oklahoma to begin a mission there. May the Lord grant him His Heavenly Kingdom!

Beheading of St. John the Baptist
Our services will be as usual this weekend: Confession on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., followed by Vigil at 6 p.m. and Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
We will serve vigil for the Beheading of St. John the Baptist on Sunday after lunch and liturgy on Monday at 9 a.m.

Sincerely in Christ,
priest Daniel

Aid to Texas, Services & Preparation for Festival

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
May the Lord bless you!
At Archbishop Peter’s instruction, we will make a special collection for those suffering from hurricane Harvey this Sunday and Sunday, Sept. 10

. As of this moment, 46 deaths have been reported and more are expected, not to mention the enormous damage to homes, businesses and farms. We pray especially for our two parishes in Houston and their parishioners, and for everyone who has been affected by this natural disaster. May God have mercy on them all!

Services this weekend will be as usual: Confession at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday followed by Vigil at 6 p.m. Divine Liturgy on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Fr. Gabriel Monforte will substitute for me while I am on the Pilgrimage Walk in Indiana this weekend. Please welcome him and his family just as we welcome all visitors to our parish. Those whom God sends to our parish are looking for communion with the Lord, but they also seek comfort in the face of their spiritual struggles, comfort which we are called to give through prayer and personal attention. Each one of you can help ease one another’s burdens by being kind and gracious to our guests. Please make a particular effort to invite new parishioners to join you for lunch. We may want to sit with our ‘typical’ parish friends, but by sacrificing our desires and choosing to sit with someone else, we put love for Christ into action.
Next Saturday, September 9 we will gather at 10 a.m. to clean the parish grounds for our Festival. Plan to join us!
Sincerely in Christ,
priest Daniel
